Fosamax ( a bis-phosphonate)  has for many years been the doctor's leading choice for calcium replacement in woman and men demonstrating osteoporosis. However, in the last three years strong evidence and clinical manifestations of damage to the jaws has surfaced. Today, we implant dentists are very concerned about a condition called ONJ ( osteo necrosis of the jaw) which can happen from prolonged use of the drug, Fosamax. Please check with your family doctor to discuss alternative medications to combat this osteoporotic condition.
